Dreams So Real
From Athens, Georgia, that fertile crescent of rock Int roll richness, sprouts Father's House, the debut album from Dreams So Real. The Coyote-Twin/Tone release is the band's first since their single "Everywhere Girl" b/w "Whir!." The single climbed to 10th on the CMJNewMusic Report's singles chart and is the best selling single out of the box in the history of Twin/Tone Records. The album, produced by R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, contains 10 previous unreleased new songs.
The trio consists of Barry Marler, vocals and guitar, Trent Allen, vocals and bass, and Drew Worsham, drums. Their music takes psychedelia into the land of Merseybeat, winding intricate guitar work around the band's immaculate sense of harmony.
In early 1984, Marler met Allen and Worshamin an Athens record store. Discovering shared musical interests, they got together and worked up a batch of songs. After a mere two weeks of rehearsal, the band performed at an Oh Ok record release party. By summer the trio was an Athens club favorite.
Since then, the band has continued to develop its sound while playing club dates up and and down the East Coast. "There's a definite understated momentum running through the music" is about as much as Marler can find to say about the band. Others have found categorization equally difficult, with one frustrated reporter declaring her thesaurus useless in helping her find words to describe them. But after a couple spins of Father's House, or attendance at a Dreams So Real show, one doesn't care about finding adjectives, just finding more time to listen.
Dreams So Real make their film debut this fall in the documentary "Athens Inside Out," along with other local music staples R.E.M. LoveTractor, Flat Duo Jets, and Coyote labelmates the Kilkenny Cats. The movie's soundtrack will be released on IRS Records and will include an unreleased Dreams So Real track, Golden
