Gigolo Aunts
The Gigolo Aunts (jig-e-Iow ants), a Boston-based quartet, bring you a custom-served platter of lilting guitar-hooked pop, lavished with shimmering vocals. They call it Everybody Happy, a 12 song album release on Coyote Records.
Raised in Potsdam, NY, a small college town "way" in upper state New York (better known as the "North Country"), the Gigolo Aunts are named for a variety of insect by way of a Syd Barrett song. Steve Hurley, vocals and bass; David Gibbs and Phil Hurley, vocals and guitars; and Paul Brouwer, drums, were put in the care of Rob Norris, former bass player for The Bongo's, who sparked the initial interest of the Aunts with Coyote, leading to recording sessions produced by Norris, to be later named Everybody Happy.
In spite of the fact that they're not from Hoboken, the Gigolo Aunts fit neatly into the Coyote/Hoboken family. You'll hear
a bit of The Feelies in the delicate, folky guitar strumming, a bit of Chris Stamey in the pure, ringing harmonies and hooks galore songwriting. And we're sure you'll agree that these very young Aunts, who have come up with a remarkably sophisticated-sounding debut, show tremendous promise and potential for earn- ing as many fans as their Coyote compatriots.
In live performance, the Gigolo Aunts show just how commanding they can be with their energetic sets of driving guitar-pop, guaranteed to capture the attention of the onlooker. The Gigolo Aunts have been turning heads across the country and Canada, 'and will be turning "many-a-more" in the year to come.
The Gigolo Aunts will be touring and spending time in the studio to record their upcoming release on Coyote this coming spring and summer. The new album, their second release, will be scheduled for release sometime this fall of 1989. Watch out for it, or you may be taken by surprise!
